The Contini, Quattroassociati, Policreo studios signed the project for the new school campus in Sorbolo Mezzani recently approved by the municipal administration.
The intervention area is located within the city centre of Sorbolo, towards the west of the town centre, and is characterized by the fact that it is a vast flat public area which currently host in part a large sports centre, with indoors and outdoors, and in part public green areas.
The project involves the construction of a primary school with 5 sections, a secondary school with 6 sections, a school canteen, a catering and auditorium area and the functional connection with the existing sports areas which will be upgraded and renovated.
The idea of campus, which was at the basis of the tender for the assignment of technical services, was declined by the design group, in the articulation of an urban system in which the public routes of the town converge in a vast tree-lined square on which overlook the public buildings.
An Italian-style model was preferred in which architecture is entrusted with the task of defining the quality of public spaces, for this reason no fences or separations are envisaged between the public space and the fronts of the schools.
The school buildings thus become elements of urban reference open to the territory, real civic centres, a meeting point for an enlarged community that goes beyond the actual school community.
School buildings are conceived as flexible educational places, capable of evolving and transforming themselves by adapting to the various needs that arise and which characterize the evolution of the community, both educational in the strict sense and territorial in the broadest sense.
The idea of a campus will probably require a rethinking of school times, as it is a school integrated into the territory, where students learn, relate richly with peers and teachers, but also with people from the wider community, and for to do this they have to “live in the school” for longer.
The project envisages a total investment of twenty million euros, part of which financed by Inail in the construction of the secondary school.
