In this construction, the issue of sustainability has been addressed at different scales and with issues interconnected with each other: the relationship with the landscape and its history, vegetational biodiversity, the use of renewable resources, energy and water-saving.
At the settlement level, the objective of the project was to establish a harmonious relationship with the agricultural landscape of the Apennines through the arrangement of the volume and the critical use of materials, such as stone and wood, which refer to the tradition of the place.
The park surrounding the buildings helps integration with agricultural areas through the use of native trees, oaks, ash trees, ash trees, field maples, which characterize the hilly agricultural landscape. In addition to these, a series of mixed shrub hedges have been provided which guarantee ecological integration thanks to the diversity of the vegetation.
The building, which reflects the typology of agricultural buildings, performs many functions with a high degree of flexibility of use: garage, playground, residence, carpentry workshop, storage rooms.
From an energy point of view, the large surface of the roof was entirely used for the placement of a photovoltaic system consisting of 192 248 w panels integrated into an accumulation system with batteries placed in the basement that guarantee the supply of 96 Kw. The use of a heat pump for the production of heating and cooling makes this building and in part also the main house to which the system is connected completely self-sufficient from an energy point of view. The energy produced is also used to recharge the two electric cars available to the family.
In the basement, in addition to a storage area, a rainwater storage tank with a capacity of 400 cubic meters was provided. The water is used to irrigate the large park area surrounding the buildings.
The building structure is entirely in reinforced concrete for the underground parts, while the upper floor is characterized by the use of a mixed structure in steel and X-Lam wood panels. The envelope consists of wooden walls, rock wool insulation and external-facing in reconstructed stone and larch boards; the part destined to the garage is surrounded by glass walls which guarantee an Ug. = 1.0
For the insulation of the roof, with steel load-bearing structure and X-Lam panels, sheets in heat-reflective composite material with a thickness of 2 cm were used.
